About Me
I’m Lawrence McKinney—a scientist, health equity advocate, and creative entrepreneur committed to driving change at the intersection of precision medicine, public health, and inclusive research. Trained at Morehouse School of Medicine, I’ve worked across academia, public health, and the biotech industry to confront disparities in care and champion equitable solutions for diverse communities.
Beyond the lab, I channel my creativity as a DJ, photographer, and content creator—using music, visuals, and storytelling to amplify culture, foster connection, and celebrate the beauty of shared experience.
My Story
I was born and raised in Riviera Beach, Florida—a small city with big spirit, where community ran deep and resilience was a way of life. It was there that my curiosity was first ignited. I was fascinated by the human body, by science, by the invisible threads that connect health and healing. At just 16, I landed my first research job at the Biomotion Foundation, and before I turned 18, I became a certified pharmacy technician—already charting a course toward a life of impact.
But my path wasn’t linear. I paused my college education to care for a sick family member. I faced rejection, uncertainty, and the emotional weight of applying to medical school multiple times. As a first-generation college student, I carried more than ambition—I carried the pressure of navigating uncharted territory alone. But I was never truly alone. Along the way, mentors—angels in disguise—stepped in, offering guidance, belief, and light in moments of doubt. Their impact is why I now mentor with such intention. I know what it means to have someone walk beside you when the road feels impossible.
I reject the notion that we must choose one lane. I am a scientist, a public health practitioner, a DJ, a photographer, a storyteller. I’ve lived the complexity—and the beauty—of holding multiple truths, and I believe those layered experiences uniquely prepare me to take on some of the world’s toughest challenges. Whether I’m in a lab meeting, behind the decks, or leading a community event, I bring the same mission: to connect, to uplift, and to create lasting change.
My foundation is built on faith, family, creativity, and service. Through every season, my belief in God has been my compass—guiding me to lead with compassion, to walk in purpose, and to never lose hope for a better tomorrow.
